Fuji The Cabinet Collective based in Chicago organizes quarterly site-specific installations in a vintage china cabinet. My installation launched on June 9th, 2023 and was a two-fold project. The overall concept is to depict the four seasons and Mt, Fuji in using traditional Japanese craft techniques. Firs, the seasons are rendered in origami shapes and animals related to each across the 4 shelves. Secondly, the backdrop is a 6-panel, seamless Sumo-e brush painting of Mt. Fuji, created using a mix of traditional stick ink ground on stone and modern materials. The panels were measured accounting for the structure of the cabinet, so upon viewing it is a seamless image.
